Unicorn Dreamcatcher

Ever since my husband and I took our six-year-old daughter to see the movie Coco, which was fabulous by the way, Emily has had a million questions about death. More specifically, about when I am going to die.  “Mom, how many days until you die?” “When you cross the bridge will you be able to come back and see me?” and  “I am worried you won’t find me!”  ( if you have seen the movie, you know what she’s talking about )

I answer all of these questions in a way I hope will ease her mind, at the same grabbing the opportunity to talk about heaven and what I think it is like.  But after a couple bad dreams about me dying left her in tears, we decided to do what we could to help good dreams find their way to us.  It was actually Emily’s idea for the dreamcatcher. She had made one in preschool years ago that had gotten torn and eventually thrown away.  That’s why, she said, the bad dreams were in her head.  LOL   So, on the web we went searching for the perfect dreamcatcher.  Lately Emily has loved all things unicorn so it was no surprise that this dreamcatcher caught her eye:   https://www.hellowonderful.co/post/DIY-UNICORN-DREAMCATCHER I grabbed the supplies one day while she was at school and wrapped the yarn around the hoop so it would be ready to decorate when she arrived home.  That was a good idea because it took me quite a long time to get that thing wrapped.  I KNOW she would not have had the patience for it!  I helped her measure and draw the horn and ears, then she cut them out along with the ribbons. She wrapped the yarn across the hoop, I grabbed the hot glue gun and this unicorn was finished and up on her bedpost in no time!  I think it turned out pretty darn cute.  And the best thing is that several days later, there’s been no talk of bad dreams 😉
