It’s the summer of social distancing.
Keep six feet away, wear your mask and basically assume anyone and everyone you see could be carrying the COVID-19 virus.
It is annoying and can be exhausting but is absolutely necessary.
While this summer hasn’t been filled with the usual school break activities like summer camp and countless hours of play at the park district pool, there is the positive: road trips.
Pack up the car and head to somewhere you’ve never been before. Escape, if even it’s just for a few days. Bring your disinfectant wipes and plastic utensils, paper plates and food along with you. Don’t forget extra masks. When you do eat out, grab a seat outdoors. If you’re at a resort like the one we stayed at up in Wisconsin, get up early and head out for fun before it gets busy. Emily and I jump into the pool right when or just before ( our little secret!) it opens. By the time most people start wandering poolside, we have had enough sun and want to move on anyway. We had the same approach at the beach. You get to enjoy calm water early in the day AND get your pick of a spot in the sand. When it got a little crowded, that was the perfect time to head out on the lake in a paddleboat away from people. Dinner “out”? No problem. Back at the resort, we ordered a pizza from the bar and found a cozy little spot to help keep just to ourselves. This little nook was the perfect place to enjoy our meal, play a few hands of cards and even get a little shut eye as evening summer rain began to fall. https://www.osthoff.com
Granted, I miss hopping on a plane heading to the summer get-aways we had planned and had to cancel. But I must say, these spur-of-the-moment road trips we have been taking are pretty great.
What a cute place to visit! And such great tips for avoiding crowds. I really should get a little more brave with road trips with Jack. Miss you guys!
It is such a cute place. I really want to visit again in the WINTER! LOL I bet it’s just beautiful covered in snow. You definitely should venture out on a road trip! Miss you all and hope you’re safe, happy and healthy.
